General Tips
Avoid green if you’re choosing an outdoorsy location! You want to stand out, not blend in.
If you have one outfit for a member of the family that you know you love, start with that and build from there.
Lots of layers! Layers add dimension, depth, and interest. Consider layers such as cardigans, belts, statement necklaces, scarves, hats, blazers, etc.
There is no right or wrong to how dressed up to be for your photos. Super casual, or all fancied up. Pick what fits your family.
No need to match! Try coordinating instead. Choose a few colors instead of one, add pops of an accent color, and it’s ok to mix patterns. Aim to express personality!
Avoid any distracting logos.
Keep the weather in mind and be flexible! Come prepared for the weather to change, and remember layers, layers, layers!
Consider the location. Black tie attire is better suited for urban locations, while casual attire works for both outdoorsy and urban.
Confident and Comfortable
Maxi dresses are flattering for anyone! They are also versatile, making it easy to add layers with belts, necklaces, sandals, and even cardigans.
Skinny jeans are flattering for most everyone! If you not comfortable wearing the tighter fit, try a “skinny boot cut” style
Flaunt your best asset! If your self conscious about your arms, wear something with a sleeve, or if your stomach is your problem area try a flowy top. Love your legs? Wear a skirt or dress, but remember to find something you're comfortable and confident in!
Make sure clothes fit well! For you and the kiddos, make sure the clothes fit just right or even a bit snug! Dresses and shirts should be snug on the shoulders.
Tips for the Kids!
You can never go wrong with simple and timeless
Make sure their clothes fits perfectly or even a bit snug, this will look much cleaner than something that they still need to grow into
Think about the shoes! Keep them simple or even go barefoot, but avoid character shoes, flip flops, and crocs.
Layer the kiddos up too! Hats, glasses, vests, bow ties, cardigans, tights or leggings under a skirt or dress.
Keep hair pieces simple and small. Too big headbands and bows distracts from their face, and tend to annoy little ones anyway!
The most important thing of your child’s wardrobe is their personality! Let that come through in whatever they are wearing. If they have a favorite wardrobe item, let them bring it, for a few photos at least and give them a little bit of say in what they are wearing!
